St. Vincent-St. Mary High School held its annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Monday, November 4, 2024, welcoming 48 new students into the organization.
Noah Angle (president), Libby Shoemaker (vice president), Selina Huang (secretary) and Christian Hammer (treasurer) presided over the ceremony and spoke on the four pillars of National Honor Society– character, scholarship, leadership, and service.
Christian Wierzbicki, STVM Class of 2019, gave the keynote address, sharing his experiences as an entrepreneur and innovator. Wierzbicki and three of his STVM classmates founded Enbasis, Inc., a product development company and incubator that operates throughout the United States across a variety of industries including maintenance, repairs and operations, healthcare, education, and non-profit. Enbasis roots can be traced back to the experiences of its founders in STVM’s NASA Student Launch Initiative.
National Honor Society is a prestigious national organization created in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Its primary goals are both to recognize those secondary school students who possess outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service, as well as to encourage those students to perform needed service for their schools and their communities.
At St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, membership in the National Honor Society is limited to juniors and seniors. A Faculty Council appointed by the Principal selects students for membership following an evaluation process measuring students against the four pillars of NHS. In addition, students must be in the college preparatory track, have an accumulative GPA of at least a 3.7 (Class of 2025) or 3.9 (new standard beginning with Class of 2026), and must maintain that level of achievement in order to retain membership. Members must make a commitment to engage in the service projects that the chapter undertakes, such as assisting with various school and community functions, tutoring, fundraising and outreach for local agencies, and providing holiday cards and crafts for the residents of St. Edward Nursing Home.
