St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is a four-year, co-educational, college preparatory Marianist-sponsored Catholic high school.
We have been an integral part of the Akron community for more than 100 years, providing quality education rooted in the Catholic faith. Over 19,000 alumni of St. Mary, St. Vincent and St. Vincent-St. Mary are proud to be a part of our rich history.
In 2017, St. Vincent-St. Mary officially became a Marianist-sponsored high school, as well as a STEM designated school by the Ohio Department of Education, the only Catholic high school in the State of Ohio to earn this designation.
St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is governed by our Board of Trustees, in cooperation with the administrative team, faculty, parents, and support organizations, and operates with the blessing and guidance of the Diocese of Cleveland. We meet all standards of the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association, North Central Association, and the State of Ohio. Our goal is to provide for the well-rounded spiritual, academic, emotional, and physical development of our students.
In the spirit of the Gospel, we are committed to educate the whole person; to lead and to serve, enlightening the mind, developing the body, touching the heart, and inspiring the soul.
The merging of Akron's first two Catholic schools, St. Vincent and St. Mary, is portrayed in the official crest of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Featured in white on a green background are a cross, a torch, a plow and a sword. The cross symbolizes the religious foundation of the school. The torch, symbolizing learning, differs from traditional designs in that it is held by two hands, one representing each school. The plow and sword symbolize commitment to social justice and were part of the crest of the late Bishop Clarence Issenman, who directed the formation of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. During the 2020-2021 school year, STVM unveiled our “House System,” a strategic plan created to enhance the overall student experience. The House System allows for students to individually develop in their faith, leadership, community and service. It establishes new opportunities for the growth and formation of relationships with peers across all grade levels, which organically increases a student’s sense of identity and belonging. Learn more about the House System and how it will create a unique student experience at STVM.
