Theology Teacher

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The STVM Theology Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging lessons rooted in the Catholic faith and Marianist tradition, fostering spiritual growth, and providing religious education in alignment with Church teachings. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore, deepen, and live out their faith while integrating academic excellence
in theological studies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Instruction & Curriculum:
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that reflect the Catholic faith and doctrine, fostering a dynamic understanding of theology.
  • Teach a variety of theology subjects, including but not limited to scripture, sacraments, morality, Church history, and Catholic social teaching.
  • Provide age-appropriate and doctrinally sound instruction that encourages students to reflect on and grow in their personal faith.
  • Prepare students for active participation in the Sacraments and other spiritual practices.
  • Use diverse instructional methods to accommodate various learning styles and ensure student comprehension.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe and productive learning environment, using appropriate classroom management strategies to minimize disruptions.
  • Assessment and Grading: Design, administer, and grade assignments, projects, and tests, providing timely feedback to students.
2. Spiritual Formation:
  • Guide students in their faith journey, promoting the values of the Catholic Church and encouraging a personal relationship with Christ.
  • Facilitate and participate in school Masses, liturgies, retreats, and other religious activities.
  • Promote and model Christian virtues and a Catholic worldview through the Marianist lens both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Student Assessment & Support: Regularly assess and monitor student progress, providing meaningful feedback and ensuring academic and spiritual growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with parents and administration regarding student progress.
  • Offer spiritual support and counsel to students as needed, nurturing a safe and supportive faith environment
4. Collaboration & Professional Development:
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, especially other theology teachers and campus ministers, to ensure a cohesive religious education program.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and ongoing faith formation opportunities.
  • Stay updated on current Catholic theological discussions, Church teachings, and educational best practices.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development sessions, which may be held in different locations within the building.
5. Compliance:
  • Ensure all instruction aligns with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, diocesan policies, and the school’s mission and philosophy.
  • Uphold and model the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior as a Catholic educator.
6. Technology and Resource Utilization:
  • Use classroom technology such as projectors, smartboards, computers, and other teaching aids, which may require moving between classrooms to access specific tools or resources.
  • Collect and return materials, such as textbooks, lab equipment, and supplies, from storage areas, libraries, or other resource centers located on different floors.
7. Extracurricular and Duty Assignments:
  • Attend or lead extracurricular activities or club meetings, which may be held on different floors or in different parts of the building.
  • Fulfill assigned duties, such as cafeteria or recess supervision, which may involve navigating between multiple levels of the school
8. Physical Demands Safety and Supervision
  • Monitor Hallways and Common Areas: Assist in supervising hallways, stairwells, and other common areas between classes to ensure student safety, manage behavior, and
    maintain orderly movement across floors.
  • Emergency Procedures: Respond to emergencies, such as evacuations or lockdowns, following safety protocols and potentially assisting with student movement between
    floors during fire drills, severe weather, or other incidents.
  • Accessibility: Accommodate the needs of students with disabilities, which may involve coordinating with staff to ensure that students with mobility challenges can access all
    areas of the building.
  • Lift and /or carry items weighing up to 10 lb
  • Sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Works on the computer for long periods of time.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of Catholic theology and the ability to effectively communicate it to adolescents.
  • Passion for Catholic education and the ability to integrate faith into all aspects of school life.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and lead students in their spiritual and academic growth.
  • Capacity for critical thinking, reflection, and continual personal and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification: Teaching certification or licensure preferred; compliance with diocesan requirements for religious education.
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching theology or religious education at the high school level preferred.
  • Faith & Practice: Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a deep commitment to Catholic education and the Church’s mission.
  • Completion of BCI/FBI Background check
  • Completion of Virtus certification
