David Vitatoe Named President of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School

The Executive Board of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is pleased to announce that David Vitatoe has been named the school’s next President, effective August 14, 2024.

Vitatoe comes to St. Vincent-St. Mary with an extensive background working in higher education in the areas of alumni engagement, fundraising, communications, and business development. Most recently, he has served at Northeast Ohio Medical University as Interim Vice President of Advancement and President of the NEOMED Foundation. Prior to NEOMED, Vitatoe held several key roles in the advancement division at John Carroll University over the course of 12 years, including the Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations and the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. He has also held positions at Case Western Reserve University in alumni programs and undergraduate admissions.

Vitatoe holds an M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management and a Master of Education from Xavier University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from John Carroll University, where he also is a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, earning All American Honors in football.

“We are so excited to welcome Dave to the St. Vincent-St. Mary Irish family,” said Mary Ann Isaac, Chair of the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Executive Board. “He has an extensive background in bringing people together to achieve a vision that moves organizations forward. Dave’s visionary leadership, advancement and team-building skills, and his deep love for Catholic education, will be a tremendous asset in setting St. Vincent-St. Mary on a strong path forward to providing an unparalleled educational experience for our students.”

Vitatoe was named after a nationwide search over the past several months, led by a search committee consisting of Executive and Foundation Board members, alumni, parents and supporters of St. Vincent-St. Mary. He is an Akron native, having attended St. Hilary grade school and Walsh Jesuit High School. His mother, Rose (Mastrolonardo) Vitatoe, is an alumna of St. Vincent High School. He is an active member of St. Rita Parish, and resides in Reminderville with his wife, Christina, and their three children.

“I am humbled and honored to serve as the next president of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, an iconic institution in my hometown of Akron. The Marianist characteristics of the school focus on educating the whole person to adapt to an ever-changing world, but the driving force behind that education is a family spirit that has long been the cornerstone of the St. Vincent-St. Mary community. I look forward to joining this family, working alongside faculty, staff, students, and parents to continue to bring life to our mission, and igniting the passion of alumni around the world. Together, we can carry forth a tradition that’s unmatched and position the school for a bright future.”

Vitatoe succeeds Mark Butterworth, who recently left St. Vincent-St. Mary after serving as its chief operating officer and president for two years to join the National Football League as its Vice President of Replay Training and Development.
