PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Rooted in the Marianist tradition and inspired by the teachings of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, the Dean of Student Formation at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School serves as a compassionate leader who sees discipline not as punishment, but as a means of forming the whole student—mind, body, and spirit. This role fosters a safe, just, and faith-filled school environment through consistent accountability, personal relationships, and a commitment to guiding students with love, firmness, and understanding.
The Dean of Student Formation collaborates with the Assistant Principal of Student Life, the Assistant Dean of Students and SRO, and grade-level moderators to support students in their moral, spiritual, and emotional development by upholding school expectations with clarity and care, collaborating with faculty and families, and promoting a culture of respect and integrity that reflects the Marianist commitment to educate for formation in faith, educate for service, justice, and peace, and educate for adaptation and change.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Student Formation & Culture
Lead efforts to cultivate a positive and respectful school culture grounded in the Catholic faith, school values, and character development.
Promote student responsibility and integrity through consistent expectations, restorative approaches, and personal formation opportunities.
Support students in developing self-discipline and decision-making skills that align with the school's mission and behavioral expectations.
Partner with campus ministry, counselors, and academic staff to provide holistic support for student growth and well-being.
Discipline & Accountability
- Oversee student behavior, discipline, and accountability matters, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compassion in enforcement in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Student Life, Assistant Dean of Students and SRO, and grade-level moderators.
- Implement and uphold the school’s discipline policies in collaboration with school leadership.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of behavioral incidents, interventions, and outcomes.
Oversees all detentions, consequences, and behavioral interventions to ensure consistency and follow-through.
Ensure students on disciplinary probation are monitored, supported, and held accountable through regular follow-ups.
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with grade-level moderators to track student conduct and facilitate monthly meetings to review and follow up on students on disciplinary probation.
Serve as a key liaison between the school and families regarding student discipline and formation issues.
Support faculty and staff in maintaining a positive classroom environment through coaching and intervention strategies.
Communicate regularly with the administrative team to align formation strategies with broader school goals.
Supervision & Safety
Supervise student behavior during arrival, lunch, dismissal, and school events to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
Participate in the planning and supervision of student events, assemblies, and retreats as part of the school’s formation program.
Serve as a visible and accessible leader throughout the school day, engaging students proactively and responsively.
Additional Leadership Responsibilities
Participate in school events, retreats, clubs, and activities that reinforce school culture and mission.
Assist in crisis management, conflict resolution, and student support services as needed.
Collaborate with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and other members of the leadership team to support strategic initiatives related to student life and formation.
Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Theology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with students in a school.
Strong commitment to Catholic education and the formation of the whole student—spiritually, emotionally, and morally.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Proven ability to lead with empathy, firmness, and consistency.
Experience with restorative practices or student support systems is a plus.
Completion of BCI/FBI Background check
Completion of Virtus certification
**For the 2025-2026 school year, this position will be open to internal candidates and new hires and will be a hybrid teaching position with possible half-time teaching and half-time dean responsibilities.
