Welcome to the STVM Guidance Department!
The Counseling Department at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is committed to meeting the unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of each student. We have a dedicated team of 5 licensed school counselors that have many years of experience in this field.
Our two full time school counselors are Mrs. Boarman and Mrs. Zinke. Our school counselors each have two grade levels that they work with, and they rotate each year so that they have the same class for four years. The school counselors will conduct a Freshmen Parent night, Sophomore Parent night, NCAA Parent night, and additional parent nights as needed. Mrs. Knapp is a part time school counselor that assists with ACT/PSAT/AP testing and academic support.
Emily Boarman is a full time counselor and is assigned to the classes of 2017 and 2019. She will assist students with personal, social, academic, and career counseling. She will work with students through individual, small group, and classroom counseling lessons. Mrs. Boarman is a co-coordinator of the annual College Fair and Career Connections Fair.
Mrs. Boarman attended Canisius College for her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Child, Family, and Community Studies. She then attended The University of Akron for her graduate degree in School Counseling.
Laura Zinke is a full time counselor and is assigned to the classes of 2018 and 2020. She will assist students with personal, social, academic, and career counseling. She will work with students through individual, small group, and classroom counseling lessons. Mrs. Zinke is a co-coordinator of the annual College Fair and Career Connections Fair.
Mrs. Zinke graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in Psychology, and received her master's degree in School Counseling from Walsh University.
Emily Knapp is a part-time counselor assigned to PSAT/ACT/AP testing and academic support. Emily has been at STVM since 2007 and has experience working with individual counseling, career and college planning, study skills, small groups and planning large events.
Mrs. Knapp attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree in early childhood development and family science with a concentration in PreK- 3 education. In 2007 Emily graduated from Kent State University with a Master's in School Counseling.
Our college guidance counselors are Lauren Taylor and Malia Miller. Our college counselors meet with our Junior students in the classroom and in their office to prepare them for the college search and application process. They work with our Senior students individually, in small groups and the classroom to make sure they are on track with their college applications. They also conduct a Junior Parent night and Financial Aid night every year for students and their families.
Mrs. Malia Miller graduated from Sandy Valley High School in 1975. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education with a minor in Athletic Coaching. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Human Development and Counseling from Walsh University in 1984, and also completed 30+ hours of post graduate work at various universities since that time. Mrs. Miller is National Board Certified in school counseling and has over 28 years of school counseling experience.
Mrs. Lauren Taylor is a 1976 graduate of Holy Name High School in Cleveland, Ohio. After high school, Mrs. Taylor attended Kent State University, where she received her BS in ELED/LD/BD in 1980 and her MA in Education/School Counseling in 1991. She was employed from 1980-2012 by Akron Public Schools, the last 10 as a counselor at Garfield High School. Mrs. Taylor has three sons, two who are married and one who is currently attending The University of Toledo.
