STVM selected for Funded Educational Study
Date Posted: September 24, 2009

The Cleveland Foundation, the George Gund Foundation, the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, and the Fund for Economic Future joined together recently to support a new project that invites eight teams of high school faculty and administrators to participate in a year-long project entitled, “Personalized Learning for the 21st Century.” We have accepted the invitation. The following staff constitute the St. V-M team: Dave Rathz, Marcia Korllos, Maureen Harrigal, Joanne Kropf, Meghan Conley.

The funding group invited 50 diverse community leaders in education, business, and non-profit organizations to bring their ideas together, to share the passions and to tap into a broader network and to create this project. The project is designed to create a network of education professionals across northeast Ohio to explore a more personalized approach within their own classrooms and to learn from and support each other.

The meetings will be conducted at Kent State U. Our team will be supported by a consultant, who is Dr. Rebecca McElfresh, with whom we worked last year through Akron U. Additionally a graduate student will be assigned to our team to assist in collecting and reporting data. Our team’s work will be regularly reported back to our own curriculum committee and also to a larger audience outside the school at the end of the school year. Our team will spend $3000 of grant money as they decide.
