The All-Saints Model United Nations Diplomats recently took home top awards at the Cleveland Council of World Affairs (CCWA) Middle School Model UN conference held at John Carroll University.
480 Middle school students from Northeast Ohio came together for a two-day United Nations simulation, which put themselves in the shoes of foreign diplomats. The students were able to work together to tackle and find solutions to the most pressing international issues.
The All-Saints team consisted of 15 students that were selected in September from numerous Catholic elementary schools across the Akron area. Chosen students practiced for 14 weeks prior to the conference at St. Vincent St. Mary's High School. The team was coached by STVM MUN team members Vince Glidden, Alex Albanese, Fiona Gaffney, Mikey Dianetti and Advisor Mrs. Kofsky.
The students had to learn a wide range of skills including diplomacy, negotiation, speaking, research skills, critical thinking skills, and how to write policies. These students also had to build their confidence to speak in front large groups of students.
The All-Saints Team sent 15 delegates making 8 delegations to compete against some of the most competitive middle schools in Northeast Ohio.
The team consisted of Mary Jewell, Jack Thomas, Matthew Deanne, Xavier Sakowicz, and Noah Meyer from St. Sebastian, Amelia Moll, Maeve Gaffney, Gianna Olivero, Rennick Best, Bailey Best and Barrett Croskey from Sacred Heart of Jesus, Addison Burke, Sophia Grdina and Emma Atchison from Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Precious Rogers from St. Anthony de Paul.
The All-Saints MUN Diplomats brought home 11 individual awards and won First place the “ Best Delegation” award.
The team will be presented with an engraved award bowl at CCWA’s annual meeting in June.
Congratulations to the entire All-Saints Model UN team for your impressive hard work and dedication.
