STVM Students Excel at District Science Day

Almost 70% of students participating in the District Science Fair on Saturday, March 18 have qualified for State Science Day at the Ohio State University on May 13th, 2017.

On Saturday, March 18, the 69th Western Reserve District 5 Science Fair was held at the University of Akron with 262 students competing from Northeastern Ohio. STVM had 26 students judged at the fair and 18 have qualified to move on to State Science Day in Columbus, on May 14. The following students scored a superior which allows them the privilege to move on to States: Freshmen: Jake Pentasuglio, Kirstin Pier and Kevin Rybka; Sophomores: Ava Beskitt, Max Chmura, Jacob Kulig, Natalie Wammes and Nina Wolf; Juniors: Rebecca Cabe, Michael Chmura, Molly Haines, Zichao Hu, Olivia Janolo and Caroline Pier; Seniors: Joseph Conti, Patrick McFarland, Alexandria Oliverio and Wenyao Yang.

Several of the students also took home awards for placing in the top of their category and/or winning special sponsored awards that were particular to their area of study.

Max Chmura - American Society of Mechanical Engineers Award.
Michael Chmura - Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC Physics Award $150
Joe Conti - 3rd place Chemistry $50, Polymer Science Award.
Molly Haines - Akron Council of Engineering & Scientific Societies Award $100.
Zichao Hu - Office of Naval Research Award $50.
Olivia Janolo - 3rd place Microbiology $50.
Kaitlin Kemp - Ohio Soybean Council Award $100.
Meijin Li - Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) Award $150, Society of Plastics Engineers - Akron Section Award $50.
Kirstin Pier - 1st place Zoology $100, Governorís Award.
Kevin Rybka - 2nd place Botany $75, Governorís Award.
Wenyao Yang - Office of Naval Research Award $50.

Congratulations go out to all the students who participated at Districts. All 26 students did a wonderful job of representing our school at the district fair.
